Advancement Courses’ Response to COVID-19

COVID-19 is impacting our country and our education system in unprecedented ways. With most schools across the country closed for weeks, many teachers are being thrown into online learning for the first time or trying to brainstorm other ways to keep students engaged while they’re at home.

At Advancement Courses, our mission is to provide teachers with the resources they need to grow professionally and seek better outcomes for their students—including in times like these. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received:

Are you still open during the COVID-19 quarantine?

Yes, Advancement Courses is open! Our customer service staff is working from home and available during our standard business hours as always. Our facilitators are also here to answer any questions you may have. Our partner Universities are also fully operational, and transcripts requests are expected to be fulfilled within our usual time frame.

How do I complete my work if I cannot implement the course concepts in the classroom?

Because many educators are not in the physical classroom with their students, we are allowing learners to complete their practice hours through reflective practice. In other words, you may fulfill your assignment requirements by (1) explaining how you plan to apply what you’re learning to your professional practice in the future or (2) applying what you’re learning to any current distance education you may be participating in.

Here are some examples of how you can fulfill reflective practice requirements:

  • Speak in the future tense
    • How will you adapt your teaching to include these concepts with students?
    • What impact do you foresee with these adaptations?
  • Speak in the past tense and use a real-world example
    • What would you have done differently?
    • What impact do you think this would have made?
  • Speak in the present tense as you adapt to distance learning
    • What online resources are you using with your students?
    • How are you incorporating course concepts virtually?

Do you have resources to help me transition to online teaching?

Yes, we do, and it’s Free! Advancement Courses created a free micro-courseLaunching Online Learning.  This course aims to help anyone struggling to adapt their lessons to an online environment. You’ll learn how to create video and digital content, transition from face-to-face to digital learning, foster peer interaction, and support students in the online assessment process.

Feel free to share this course with colleagues via e-mail or social media. We want to get this course into the hands of those who need it most.
